A student of Gombe State University, Maryam Maina has won the N100,000 Schorlaship Poetry Competition. She emerged winner after defeating seven participants in the senior category during the the 6th annual Gombe day of literature and creativity.

Upon announcement by the panel of judges, Maryam Maina was presented with a cheque of N100,000 scholarship, an automatic volounteer appointment with Halima Factor Community Initiative (HFCI) amongst other amazing prizes.
Maryam Maina while speaking with reporters said;
“Emerging as a winner of the poetry prize contest is something I’ve always dreamed of. It’s a special kind of feeling I cannot put to words. It’s just so calming, so soothing. The peoples’ cheers as I emerged the winner, their melodious laughter as they hugged me, the contagious smile they held as they congratulated me is so overwhelming”
She continued;
“It’s like winning wings to soar in the sky to sing to a song to every soul. The feeling is so Masha Allah and Alhamdulillah”
The competition was organised by Halima Factor Community Initiative (HFCI) of Haj. Halima Usman in collaboration with Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC), National Orientation Agency (NOA), Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Gombe State University (GSU), Federel College of Education Technical (FCET) and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
