Today being the 86th birthday of the African legend and Nobel Laureate, below is a video of how Kongi appeared in court in 1965. This is to prove the radical nature of the writer and African God of literature.

According to a report published on Opera News on how Kongi got arrested back in 1965,

“After the elections of October 11, 1965, Premier of the Western Region, Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, used the state broadcasting services to announce false results.

“On the night of October 15, 1965, when Akintola was to announce himself the winner, Wole Soyinka (pictured), with generous assistance from his pistol, forced the presenter (at gun-point) of the Western Broadcasting Service, Ibadan to air his own tape asking Akintola to resign and go.

“Akintola and his supporters went berserk. The police declared Soyinka wanted and he fled to Dr. Michael Okpara, Premier of the Eastern Region, in Enugu, for temporary refuge until his arrest on October 27, 1965.
